Location and physical description
|
Thanks to the extraordinary diversity of the fauna and the existing endemic flora , this forest mountain situated 30km eastward Moramanga , near Perinet station and the village of Andasibe, inside an average altitude lateritic ground mountain is presented as the " jewel of Madagascar " . Diverse types of fauna and flora peculiar to forests of the southern and the northern part of the Malagasy east coast exist in this place .
Area : Perinet : 840 ha / Mantadia : 12 000 ha

The climate

Average annual precipitations are near 1700 mm with a maximum in January . In dry season : June to October , the presence of nocturnal and morning fog and intermittent fine rains can be observed .
Monthly average temperatures :(August) minimum 14°C; (January ) maximum 24°C .

The flora
|
The region of Andasibe has an entire forest of innumerable small or giant dragons trees that spread over 2000 ha. Sub humid evergreen forest with a dense arborescent stratum . Can be discovered there arborescent ferns (Cyathea) , Dypsis, Plantago, Smilax, rubus ,the epiphyts composed of ferns , mosses , orchids (Bulbophyllum) and cactus (Rhipsalis) the only cactus present in Madagascar and in Africa

The fauna

Can be found there at least eleven species of lemurs: among others the rarest primate of Madagascar : the Buscherlohrmaki , the Allocebus trichotis recently discovered . There are also: the diurnal lemur : the Indri Indri , the reddish-brown belly Lemur , the gray Hapalemur , the Lemur vari and the Propitheque with tiara . The nocturnal lemurs : the woolly Avahi , The Aye Aye and the great Cheirogale.
The Mantadia great national park of 12 000 ha , on the marshy region of Torotorofotsy shelters unique brown frogs .
One counts also 66 types of amphibias , 20 reptiles , endemic carnivores as well as a rich fauna of micromammalians . The avifauna counts near 109 species some of them of a extreme rarity
