There are officially two distinct climatic seasons in Madagascar which in fact is a hot and humid sub - tropical climate:
the dry season including the southern winter goes from April to October,
the rainy season , from December to March.
The ideal season to see at the same time everything everywhere is the period that goes approximately from April to October . As an example In the region of Antananarivo , the temperature varies from 16 to 25°C in January and 9 to 18°C in July ; in Nosy Be : 23 to 31° in January and 17 to 29 ° in July .
Southern and Western regions are more arid. The west coast is the driest and most sunny of Madagascar.
From December to March monsoons winds sometimes bring cyclones on the north and the east of the island. : it rains all the year on the east coast , especially from December to March which is the official rain season. September , October and November, are the driest months .
In mountainous regions (Antananarivo) it is hot and stormy during the rainy season and dry and sweet the rest of the year.
In the High land and mainly in the region of Antananarivo : the dry season lasts from April to October, with a period of southern winter from June to August . Rains are strong but short ,only from half - November to March .
The cyclonic season : officially from half - December to half- April is to avoid if possible. In the best cases , it rains a lot , even if that does not mean everywhere or everytime .
