Situated in the West coast of Madagascar, MORONDAVA is the most important center of the Menabe region . It is on the way to become one of the tourist development of the island . Country of schooners and baobabs, Morondava, capital of the Sakalava people of the Menabe, is surrounded on all sides by armies of giant baobabs, the city is situated at the mouth of the river Morondava . On the shore of the Mozambique Channel , Morondava offers to the burning sun its streets of sand, and its seaside rocked by the passing schooners and canoe which sails are full of wind. The fishing , essential activity of Morondava, gives rythm to the life of fisherman Vezo. The shrimp is here called pink gold , because it supports many families since the opening of a factory. The city has kept its Muslim character because of the numerous immigrants of Indian , yemenit , comoroes or Somalian origin who come running shops in this sweet place.
The visit of Sakalava funeral site is submitted to a prior authorization delivered by the local administration. It is imperative to be accompanied by a guide because besides the difficulties of access, many taboos ("Fady") protect these sites.
The Alley of Baobabs
At 30 km of Morondava, The Andasonia Grandidieri wisely stand alongside the road of Belo sur Tsiribihina ,forming the famous alley of Baobabs. The lighting effects on the giant trees , caused by the reflections of the sun at sunset or sunrise make the happiness of photographers. This variety of baobabs called Renala by residents of the region, is endemic and is particularly abundant in the Menabe. These leaveless giants of 15 m high rise on the middle of the savannah their pot-bellied trunk became waterlogged . They have long provided to the regions materials used for the construction of habitations , their lacerated bark also served to ropes making . Today, only their leaves are still used in the composition of some Sakalava meals .
Other rare baobabs, the same genera , but of different species still grow in the region of Morondava, these are the fony and the za.
The royal tombs of Mahabo
Mahabo means "which is high ". This name comes from the proximity of the tomb of Sakalava king of the Menabe. The presence near Mahabo of majestic baobabs is also to be mentionned .
The tombs of Mangily
Accessible only during dry season because of the marshy area .
Tombs of Ambato sur Mer and Kivalo
A ccess only ossible by canoe . Kivalo is the village of the famous sculptor Rasidany.

The forest of Kirindy
On the way to Belo sur Tsirihibina. ( approximately 60 km )
Hiking through arrowed path with the identification of trees species . Possibility of accommodation in rustic bungalow .
The tombs of Lovobe
The tombs of Lovobe situated southward Morondava are accessible only by pirogue .
Belo sur mer
Belo sur Mer is situated sixty kilometer , as the crow flies , southward Morondava . It takes 2 hours by speed boat . Magnificent site with a protected bay and islets , Belo sur Mer is also an ideal place for divers . Before leaving the village , not to forget the visit of the small schooners making .
