Belief and Traditions
MAJUNGA is the main city of the West Coast and second trade port of Madagascar, situated in the peninsula between the Mozambique channel and the right bank of the red river Betsiboka. Called " the city of Flowers " It is crushed by the sun. The main interests are: beautiful planted trees avenues inviting to promenades, the Square Poincarré with the huge baobab tree which became the living symbol of Majunga., the " boutres" or schooners port and the cornice boulevard . Around the city, there are so much places to be visited .Sites and monuments have in general a priceless value historical character , such as the caves of Anjohibe, the Doany (sacred place) Andriamisara, the sacred lake Mangatsa, the natural amphitheatre of red rocks and earth known as Cirque rouge, Amborovy beach and the museum Akiba of the university.

It is an extremely picturesque city where modern buildings mix to indo-arab style residences . Majunga is also the administrative center of a region in full development and one of the most cosmopolitan cities of Madagascar. Its population, the ethnic group Sakalava is strongly marked by the Islamic faith with some hundred of Comorians, Indians and Chinese dealing with the trade. The Corniche boulevard : traditional promenade and meeting place of Majunga population and holidaymakers in the evenings, is the best place to make the most of magnificent sunsets.

Amborovy
(duration : 4 hours)
Situated 10 km to the north of the city, Amborovy is the most beautiful beach of Majunga, where traditional fishermen village borders on bungalows of holidays.The Red Cirque : within few minutes walking distance from Amborovy (2 km), one reaches an impressive cirque of red earth and stones walls , giving the name the Red Cirque .Some women use the various sand and earth colors to realize the magnificent colored bottle , composed of local motives.

The imposing "boutres" or schooners of an other age , obstructing the quay, are still largely used to day on the whole west coast of Madagascar for the local product transportation such as coconuts, raffia, woods, coal from woods, tobaccoes, &
