DIEGO SUAREZ , or Antsiranana, owes its name to a Portuguese navigator that explored its vicinities. The city, situated at the extreme north of Madagascar, is sheltered by the one of the most beautiful bays of the world, considered as the second after Rio de Janeiro. The city wears a strong imprint of the French colonial presence. An ancient military base has been transformed into shipbuilding and refit centre . City tour and Ramena Beach

This city differs from all other parts of the country by its cosmopolitan population who always follow and confuse the rhythms of life as an African, oriental and occidental. At the center of this colonial and historical city, the market displays, where reigns a nonchalant and colored atmosphere. One finds there all administrative offices and the town hall .At the city exit , an asphalted road leads to Ramena (20km), a splendid beach under the coconut trees where can have a splendid view on the bay of Diego. Ramena is at the same time a residential quarter and a fishermen village.

The Park of Montagne d'Ambre
(40 km /duration : 5 hours)
A volcanic mountain culminating to 1475m of altitude, classified as national park (18200ha), is covered by the oriental forest. Crater lakes ( the small lake, the great lake, the texier lake, the curse lake) and many cascade the most beautiful is "the great cascade". The height estimated at 82m, embellish this park. Very rich flora in ferns arborescence, epiphytes and orchids. Fauna understanding some particular species of lemurs (Propithecus, diadema, perrierus, lemur coronatus), birds, reptiles and fosa endemic carnivores of the prehistory.
